Understanding the BS AU 145e Legislation
In September 2021, the legislation for number plates changed to BS AU 145e, with key updates. These have made the standards more strict so number plates are more readable. You can visit the British Number Plate Manufacturers Association's website (BNMA) for more detail on what the legislation contains. We recommend using our PlateSync® 3 software so all your records are synced and up to date, whilst ensuring that all the number plates you create are complaint.
We have also made a summary of what the changes mean for you:
- 3D and Gel digits - these digits are fully legal, provided that the digit is a solid black. This means no two-tone or 3D effect fonts used.
- Supplier Business Name and Postcode - At the centre bottom of the plate, a number plate must include a business name and postcode of where the number plate was made. You can order components from us with your business name and postcode pre-printed, however this is also included in the PlateSync 3 software.
- The BS AU 145e mark, alongside the manufacturer mark (us!) must be included in the bottom right of the number plate. This is also something we can pre-print onto your components, or you can print using the PlateSync 3 software.
