DVLA Update: Trailer Plates for non-commercial trailers and caravans

Trailers, including caravans and horseboxes etc, weighing over 750kg needs to be registered with DVLA and show a trailer plate.

"Although not mandated in the UK, most countries expect trailers over 750kg gross weight driving to or through their country, apart from Ireland, Cyprus, Malta and Spain, to be registered and they may take enforcement action if the trailer is not registered. This applies to commercial and non-commercial trailers (for example, a caravan or horsebox).gov.uk

Who and what

Consumers need to register their (non-commercial) trailers, including caravans and horseboxes to travel abroad. Previously these rules were focused on commercial trailers.

Motor traders can supply trailer plates and gain an extra revenue opportunity and access to new customer types.

"Anyone who has a number plate that does not display the registration number correctly could be fined up to £1,000."
