DfT confirms ICE ban reinstated for 2030, says Fleet News
Fleet News website states Department for Transport has confirmed the ban on the sale of new fossil fuel cars from 2030. How the ban will affect PHEVs and vans remains unclear.

The Department for Transport 'confirms' that from 2030, the sale of new ICE vehicles will be banned, Fleet News reports.
At time of writing, there is no announcement on DfT's blog. They have advised they intend to provide more details in due course.
What is industry and other press saying?
Otherwise, the announcement has been quite muted with minimal press coverage and no mention in the King's Speech.
Industry is still seeking clarification on a number of areas, for example on:
- what the rules will be for vans.
- details on the rules around PHEVs: it is thought a certain number of miles per journey would have to be 'emissionless' to qualify.
- SMMT is calling for "urgent measures" on concerns about infrastructure and affordability in a recent interview with Auto Express.
What's the history?
The original 2030 ban (set in 2020) was put back by Sunak's government in September last year to 2035 and is now reported to be reverting to the original 2030 date.
