Starting as a sign company and developing to manufacturing number plates, Jepson & Co has seen it all over the years!

Established in 1894

Our home has always been the fine city of Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Over the years we have moved from Hunter House Road, to Button Lane (now Fargate), to Wellington Street and now we're at purpose-built premises at 44 East Bank Road where Jepson & Co resides as the world's oldest number plate manufacturer.

Family business

George Henry Jepson established the business in 1894 as a sign writer, quickly adapting to number plates in 1903.

Present Managing Director, Peter Jepson, is proud of what the company has achieved so far; “At our heart, we are a family business. We form enduring relationships with employees, customers, suppliers and community, to balance the needs of all our stakeholders. Representing the 4th generation of the Jepson family, I have the unique privilege of leading the company into its 3rd century of evolving innovation in vehicle identification.”
